Auratone

Auratone has been a cornerstone of the recording industry since its founding in 1958 by Jack Wilson, a WWII veteran driven by a passion for building loudspeakers. Originally focused on home audio, Auratone soon transitioned into the professional recording market, revolutionizing studio monitoring with the introduction of the iconic 5C Sound Cube in the early 1970s. Dubbed the “truth speakers” by Quincy Jones, the 5C’s flat midrange response and crossover-free design provided engineers with an honest, real-world reference, helping shape legendary albums like Michael Jackson’s Thriller, mixed extensively on 5Cs by Bruce Swedien.

Still family-owned and now based in Nashville, Auratone is led by Jack’s grandson, Alex Jacobsen, who relaunched the 5C in 2014, meticulously preserving its original sound using authentic materials. Trusted by top artists and engineers—including Taylor Swift, Adele, U2, and Tom Elmhirst—Auratone remains an essential tool in studios worldwide.
